General Approaches For Feature Selection - 1468 Words
General Approaches for Feature Selection There are 3 types of approaches for feature selection namely filter, wrapper, embedded method. Filter method: Filter method does not involve a learning algorithm for measuring feature subset [6]. It is fast and efficient for computation .filter method can fail to select the feature that are not beneficial by themselves but can be very beneficial when unite with others. Filter method evaluates the feature by giving ranks to their evaluation value. In filter method it evaluates the correlation between the features by using criteria such as, mutual information, maximum length, maximum relevance min redundancy (mRMR), PCA. Figure 1.2 Filter approach Wrapper method: wrapper method involve learning algorithm and search for optimal feature subset from original feature set which discover the relationship between relevance and optimal subset selection. It performed better than the filter method. The specific training classifier is used to evaluate the performance of selected features. Figure 1.3 Wrapper approach Embedded method: Embedded method is a combination of wrapper method and embedded method. This decreases the computational cost than wrapper approach and captures feature dependencies. It searches locally for features that allow better discrimination and also the relationship between the input feature and the targeted feature. It involves the learning algorithm which is used to select optimal subset amongShow MoreRelatedExploring Affinity Propagation1006 Words à |à 4 PagesTraditional approaches for clustering data are based on metric resemblances, i.e., nonnegative, symmetric and filling the triangle disparity measures. Statistical Process Control Assigment Free Essays
string(187) " controlling the limits of variation in our process our project will be run more smooth and can keep satisfy of our customer and increase products quality through production methodology\." Task1: Describe two basic types of inspection used in sampling for process control and explain two processes at your company that could benefits from each type of inspection. In you answer gives the example of variation expected from that process. Answer 1- There are two types of data inspection which are below: 1. We will write a custom essay sample on Statistical Process Control Assigment or any similar topic only for you Order Now Variable or continuous scale 2. Attribute or discrete scale 1. Variable or continuous data inspection: The variable data inspection is the type of inspection which varies time to time and it is the scale of measurement for any process used in different industrial process as well as in our daily life. In variable data inspection there is not breakup between the process. Which means the variable data scale always vary with the time. Examples: Temperature, distance, Analogue signal, Acceleration, Velocity, Weight etc. Explanation: 1- As we know that the analogue signal always varies the values from zero to its maximum values with the different periods of time. Analogue signal start from zero value and its goes to high peak and then after that its values become low which goes to minimum to zero. This example shows that this type of inspection is always continuous with time. But we should be remembering that in variable data inspection the value always was remaining continues. 2- In another example suppose a cooking oil company selling the different type of oil drums into market. Then we differentiate all these drums in local shop by checking their size , weight, volume, shapes, capacity. 2. Attribute data inspection: In is scale of measurement in any process which should not be vary or continue. The attribute data inspection scale is measured by checking their quality. For example pour quality, bad , accept, and good , yes or not. Examples: 1- For example we want to buy a motorbike in showroom. So then we do not need to look its engine power or its speed and other features. Just we will be choosing that looks good for us. But in case of attribute data inspection we need to see its all features. For example its model or its engine power capacity which make motorbike different from other models. Also by looking its more characteristics. 2- Suppose a company producing different type of product like a pen etc. Then in attribute data inspection scale we just look and select any of them. But we will consider its quality, and their writing life time. The above both scale of measurement are necessary in industrial but often time we give the priority to variable data scale because it is important that to get more success in our products quality. And checks the product everything by using the attribute data scale. For example today a lots company producing the electronics components which are used in printed circuit board for electronics industry design. But to make safe working operation of any electronics devices we must check the components life time, materials quality, its temperature. Which make the circuit operation more effective and increased the circuit finally stability. So thus why by using the attribute data inspection our product will work more efficient. Which also keep the customer happy and satisfy? But we used the other type of inspection at this stage then we have more change that our business or product goes in loss and itââ¬â¢s reduce the customer unhappy and keep down market value over all. Task 2: Describe clearly the significance of natural and assignable causes of variation. Answer: There are two type of variation which is below. ââ¬â Natural or common cause of variation: Explanation: This type of variation is actually happened in system by automatically or naturally. But the effects of this variation in process is low than other variation. All these variation automatically generated and effect the process because nature of system. For example in electronics field we can see that are too many natural variation which normally involves in t he system and change the system output overall. The rays of sun, industrial noise etc which often affect the transistors and change its current. All these variation is inheriting the process. But a main thing is how we keep our process our process away from this natural variation. According to my own point of view this is only required to modify the system which can decrease effect of natural variation in process. This can be done when we select a good team and team management skills. 2-Assignable variation or special cause of variation: The special or assignable variation is the type of variation which occurred in process by different method for example the change of the environment, lack of attention of operator or problems in machine. So assignable variation is not generated automatically in process but all these variation cause when you see some problems in machine or the lack of attention of the operator who do not have extra skill to properly handle it or used it. So we need to check the environment as well because the change of environment suddenly can also affect our result. By making some good decision and applying some strategies we can eliminate the assignable variation in process. It is easy to avoid the special cause of variation in system comparatively naturally variation. Task 3: Explain the purpose of modified control limits for variable data inspection: A control limits is very important for any process to run in right direction. By controlling limits narrow our project will be look more effective and perfect. The wider control limit is the signe which show the project is going to be fail. Which means there are lots of variations in project which can effect our product as well. It does not matter that how much project is big or large, but main thing is in project that how we can handle the limits by the using good technical skill or scientific method. So by controlling the limits of variation in our process our project will be run more smooth and can keep satisfy of our customer and increase products quality through production methodology. You read "Statistical Process Control Assigment" in category "Papers" Figure -1 Control limit diagram The above figure -1 is basic diagram of a control limit chart of any process. Where we can see tow lines. The upper line is called upper control and lower line is called lower control limit line and between them there is one more line which is called average line or centre line. If for example if we increased the distance of upper and lower control limit lines then its much difficult to us to find the error in our process, because the variation in our process is very high. So we have maximum chance that our project will be damage at any stage. If we see less distance between upper and lower limit lines then we can say our process is under control or project is stable. Which means there is nothing wrong in our system which damages our project to its success? If the data is fall down out size these two control lines then we should be know that some things is wrong in our process which take us to the damage. In the process is in control and process statistic is normal, 99. 7300% of all the points will fall between the control limits. Any observation outside the limits, or systematic pattern within, suggest the introduction of a new and like unanticipated source of variation, known as special cause variation. Since increased variation means increased the quality costs, a control chart (signalling) the presence of a special ââ¬â cause requires immediate investigation. This makes the control limits very important decision aids. The control limits tell you about process behaviour and have not intrinsic relationship to any specification targets or engineering tolerance. In practice , the process mean (and hence the centre line) may not coincide with the specified value or target of the quality characteristic because the processââ¬â¢ designââ¬â¢ simply cannot deliver the process characteristic at the desired level. The purpose of control charts is to allow simple detection of events that are indicative of the actual process change. This simple decision can be difficult where process characteristic is continuously varying. The control chart provides statistically objective criteria of change when change is detected and considered good it is cause should be identified and possibly become the new way of working, where the change is bad then its cause should be identified and eliminated. Task no 6: p3. 1, p3. 3, 4. 2: According to my experiment in class the data collected by taking the length and diameter measurement. In all of the 25 readings I draw a distribution chart and according to that chart most of the values of length of dowels are in between 29. 81mm to 30. 00mm and then the 2nd most common values are in 30. 1mm to 30. 20mm while the rest of values are in between 29. 00mm to 29. 80mm. As shown in below figure 1. 1 As showing in this SPC chart 1. 1 where the data is moving away from the mean line which mean there is something happening wrong in the process but it is still in control so we need to check it out properly in order to get bet product of dowel from process. SPC chart 1. 1 Similarly I d raw some control chart relating to dowels diameter and no of dowels in which I can see that most of the data existing near to the mean value but there is two point which is point A and point B as shown in the SPC 1. where the data is moving away from the mean line which mean there is something happening wrong in the process but it is still in control so we need to check it out. SPC 1. 2 In figure 1. 2 the data shown in the chart tells us that the most of the data is below the mean line but is in control but if the process going in the same direction then after some time we can see that all those points which are near to mean line moving away from it and it cross the lower limits and it become uncontrollable. SPC 1. 3 In figure 1. the chart for the diameter of the dowels shows that the most of the diameter of the dowels are between 7. 81mm to 8. 00mm then the 2nd most common value of diameter is existing between8. 01mm to 8. 20mm, while the remaining values are in between 8. 21mm to 8. 40mm , 7. 60mm to 7. 80mm and 8. 61mm to 8. 90mm. Task: 7 P2. 5; p3. 3 Recommendations to the manufacturing manger on how to control the dowel production process. This could be in the form of a control program. Answer: The manufacture manger is person who is responsible to control the all kind of variation in dowel production in process system. Because without knowing variation which can effect the dowel performance cannot be improve the process of dowels. First of all the manger should be know that what kind of variations can effect system of dowel during their measurement or during the process of dowels. As i mentioned in beging that there are two kinds of variations which can involved in system and it can damage the system of dowel. These two variation are very common , and production manger need to control them by using some wise step. These two variations are given below. * Common cause of variation Special cause of variation The first kind of variation in dowel production can be effect by the nature of system. Because all these kinds of variation is actually generated automatically. So the manger should be making a list in which he need to write all kinds of common cause variation. Here are some given some example of common cause variation * Inappropriate procedures. * Poor design. * Poor maintenance of machines. * La ck of clearly defined standard operating procedures. * Poor working conditions. e. g. lighting, noise, dirt, temperature, ventilation. * Machines not suited to the job. Substandard raw materials. * Measurement error. If the above variation happens in production of dowel then the manufacturing manger should be control by applying different strategies. For example they need to use some new and good error less equipment which can show proper measurement of dowel. Also he needs to check the raw materials in the production of dowel. Always try to use the good materials and should be provide safe working environment to their employees. According to my own opinion the work environment can play an important role in dowel production plant. If the manger implement some role in plant then they can improve both quality and workers performance in order to get best performance of their production. Because a happy work place or environment is productive office or place weather all employees put their efforts to improving the quality. Often time the engineers / works enhance their ability when their management provide them safe and secure atmosphere. The assignable variation cannot affect the system by automatically but these all variation effect the process of dowel by unusually. Here are some examples of assignable variations * Operator absent. Poor adjustment of equipment. * Operator falls asleep. * Faulty controllers. * Machine malfunction. If all above the variation is control by the manger during the dowel production then they have very less chance to be fail of their product. This process is called the statistical process control, if system is in under control then in SPC chart show the how line is close to mean lines. But any of above variation affects the system and which is not control then the process is called out of control. Which show that there are some problems which may be lack of attention of operator or used by faulty equipments. Always he should be draw some SPC charts in which he can judge all kinds of variations by putting their values as we I given the example in above SPC charts. The production manger needs to use these tools and techniques in order to improve quality of dowels. The tools and techniques most commonly used in process improvement are: â⬠¢ Problem solving methodology, such as DRIVE â⬠¢ Process mapping â⬠¢ Process flowcharting â⬠¢ Force field analysis â⬠¢ Cause effect diagrams â⬠¢ CEDAC â⬠¢ Brainstorming â⬠¢ Pareto analysis â⬠¢ Statistical process control (SPC) â⬠¢ Control charts â⬠¢ Check sheets â⬠¢ Bar charts â⬠¢ Scatter diagrams Matrix analysis â⬠¢ Dot plot or tally chart â⬠¢ Histograms All above tools and technique help the manger to improve the dowels quality in process system. Below diagram 1. 5 most power full tools or techniques which enable to manger that he needs to look all of them to improve the process. Regulators Erro r less equipment or Machine Human Skills and experience Knowledge Output Controls Input Process Of dowel Physical Site Mechanical Service Product Internal Data Supplies External Raw materials Capacity Resources Standard References: http://www. businessballs. com/dtiresources/TQM_process_improvement_tools. pdf How to cite Statistical Process Control Assigment, Essays

Gaining My Independence Essay Example For Students
Gaining My Independence Essay My mother seeing Im responsible, earning her trust, these are two of the biggest things that happened in my life. Although, the endless struggle and intense arguments to get to that point had an even greater impact on my life. When I just started the seventh grade, about two years ago I got into the business of reselling shoes. For those who dont know what this is its when you buy expensive, very limited Nike footwear and resell the product for even more because of the immense demand for the shoe and the small quantity of the item being produced. I got into this hobby very fast, getting engaged in all the latest sneakers coming out and making connections at stores to get these limited sneakers. Soon everyone knew I was a so called Sneaker Head. à I started to make copious amounts of money for a young adult going to school on the daily. I decided to bring the topic of doing this business up with my mom. At the time she was oblivious that I was doing this or anything like it. Most of this was at a time when I really didnt have a set schedule of where I was living with my dad or mom, both constantly fighting over when I would live here or there, threatening court on each other. They both became blind to caring or even noticing what I was doing in my time and just trying to fight for me to be with them. Instantly she said no, saying I couldnt do this anymore stating, Shoes cant really be worth that much moneyà . I clenched my hands to gether with hope trying to show her but she wouldnt listen, because there wasnt nearly enough evidence. For a little while Im pretty sure she thought I was selling some type of drug because of the amount of money being made for the little I was doing. Also the random expensive items that would be in my room made her wonder. She wanted proof that I really was selling shoes, confirmation. This upset me at the time but I understood she was trying to protect me. She didnt want anything bad to happen to me. I started to keep a log of everything I bought and sold also showing the profit involving shoes. I did this for four months and then showed my mother everything including most receipts that I kept too. Over the course of this time, I had spent over six thousand dollars buying sneakers to sell and made a profit of around three and a half thousand dollars. This coming to a total of almost ten thousand dollars. My mom, seeing how much money is really being made was astonished. She looked at me and asked, how much of this money do you have left, à I replied with around half showing her the Gucci sneakers, Xbox One, multiple controllers, five of the hottest games, computer, Beats earphones, and several thousand dollars of cash sitting in my room. She couldnt believe it. The next weekend we went to the bank and set up an account for me. I also got my own debit card, checking and savings accounts. My Mom finally had trust in me. That day I felt so proud, I told myself I wanted to feel like this more often. Gaining my moms trust is one of the things Im most proud. The amount of responsibility and independence I have been giving by my parents since then is what makes me happy. The satisfaction of knowing my parents have their trust in me is what makes me get up on those long days when I need to go to school at seven in the morning. I finally feel independent.

Touro University International James L. White ETH 501 Module 4, Session Long Project Dr. Steven J. Gold INTRODUCTION The purpose of this report is to describe any sense of barriers in women's advancement in my firm or if there have been such barriers in the past. This report will provide the reader with some information about the company I work for and some facts about the barriers women have been through. By discussing these topics I hope to offer some knowledge about my organization. I will conclude this report with a brief summary of the entire analysis, highlighting some of the most significant parts that the report contains. BARRIERS As you can recall; I am in the military and we train and mentor Health Service Management Apprentice. In an article entitled Amazing Women in War and Peace by Retired Captain Barbara A. Wilson she explained, "In October of 1778 Deborah Samson of Plimpton, Massachusetts disguised herself as a young man and presented herself to the American army as a willing volunteer to oppose the common enemy. She enlisted for the whole term of the war as Robert Shirtliffe and served in the company of Captain Nathan Thayer of Medway, Massachusetts." (Barbara, 1996) Women for years to come tried to join the military service only to be denied because of their gender. In May 1942 the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps was created to serve at aircraft service stations which freed men to do other vital duties needed by the military. In the spring of 1943 the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps was changed to the Women's Air Corp's. It was not until 8 July 1948 that the first woman, Esther M. Blake, was able to join the Air Force. In accordance with 5 U.S.C 2301. Merit Systems Principles," Recruitment should be from qualified individuals from appropriate sources in any endeavor to achieve a work force from all segments of society, and selection and advancement should be determined solely on the basis of relative ability, knowledge, and skills, after fair and open competition which assures that all receive equal opportunity." 5 U.S.C, 2006). What that means is no one can be denied employment because of their gender. This is one barrier that women like Deborah Samson and Esther M. Blake have paved the way to overcome. CONCLUSION In today's Air Force you can see that women play a big role in the military mission serving in many vital roles, from pilots to ground troops. History has taught us that we lose out on a lot of good ideas and employees if we discriminate against an individual because of race, gender, religion, etc... WORK CITIED 1. Application layer firewalls and Packet Filtering
Application layer firewalls and Packet Filtering Application-layer firewalls are every so often executed using application go-betweens. Two TCP affiliations are set up: one between the package source and the firewall, another between the firewall and the bundle objective. Application delegates square arriving packs for the advantage of the objective, take a gander at application payload, and a while later exchange enabled bundles to the objective. Suspicious data is dropped and the client and server never examine particularly with each other. Middle people basically incorporate more tradition stack overhead than surveying packages at the framework layer. Moreover, in light of the fact that a fascinating mediator is required for each application, middle person firewalls can be less versatile and slower to refresh than tasteful appraisal firewalls Package isolating firewalls are the most crucial sort of firewall confirmation and can process information through a fundamental organizing computation. Package filtering can be performed by different framework contraptions and is for the most part executed when you download free firewall programming. This suggests most bundle filtering firewalls allow the customer a level of control. Greater frameworks ought to maintain a strategic distance from package isolating firewalls as use can realize complex issues with plan. Nevertheless, they are ideal for little frameworks. There are only two honest to goodness disadvantages to distribute. The firewall has no logging limit, so perceiving if it is being attacked can be troublesome. Additionally, it cant be used for content-based isolating. Delegate Firewalls Like a save server or delegate server, middle person firewalls are a somewhere between in-house frameworks and servers on the web. They work by isolating information at the application level, which implies more important security for compose resources. Despite encroaching upon web requests, go-between firewalls in like manner allow and deny moving toward movement for any similarity of traditions, for instance, HTTP and FTP (Layer 7). Delegate firewalls use significant bundle examination and tasteful examination to choose whether moving toward action is shielded or destructive. Go-between firewalls have their own specific IP address which keeps away from facilitate framework contact with various structures and is championed as the most secure sort of firewall available. Not in any manner like an extensive parcel of interchange sorts of firewall, they similarly have wide logging limits which are impeccable while investigating security breaks. Stateful Inspection Firewalls Similarly, known as novel package isolating or multi-layer firewalls, stasteful examination is a firewall development that screens all powerful TCP and UDP affiliations. These firewalls use the information from looking at to figure which sort out bundles to allow through the firewall. Just bundles organizing a known powerful affiliation are allowed to pass the firewall and it is a security feature transcendent in numerous business frameworks. Stasteful examination is an advancement from static package isolating, inside which simply the header of groups could be poor down. This suggested an assailant could get information through a firewall by indicating reply in the header. Stasteful appraisal at present screens the header of groups and also the separation down to the application layer (ALG). VPN A virtual private framework vpn. Is a framework inside a framework that usually empowers a customer to use the web on a private framework A virtual private framework vpn is widily common in various affiliation on account of the going with reasons Vpn are brave expermision Various segments coordinating Consequently, vpn give unusual condition of security By fowl long on electronic developments vpn streamline a framework general Running a vpn mean better shot of aphorism molecule organize uptime Content Filtering A Content Filter picks which content is commendable for review and access through a given structure. Programming that controls content, which is generally called web-filtering undertakings or blue pencil item, is a term used for applications made and made for managing what information or media is allowed to be seen by the end customer (especially content from the Internet) Scarcely any corporate tech subjects rouse as much dialog as corporate web isolating. Corporate organization needs to shield their structures from malware and their delegates from wasteful Internet surfing. Delegates need to feel like trusted in people from a gathering and are stressed over security and the chance to use the Internet to its fullest potential as they work.

Assignment Example d that there exists several success along with critical issues pertaining to ERP implementation that acts as strong determinants for effective operation of the system. Correspondingly, those organizations willing to implement ERP system within its supply chain are required to combine skills, experience and know-how along with meeting the financial requirements. With respect to ERP system implementation in Nike, it was observed that the system failed to deliver the expected outcome (Nicolo, 2012; Wong et al., 2005) It was later observed that various factors contributed towards the failure and the degraded quality of the overall ERP system. Among the myriad factors responsible for low quality ERP system, one of the major aspects was particularly due to high rate of project team turnovers. Besides, it was also ascertained that consultant responsible for providing professional level advice to project team members relatively had low experience that resulted in ineffective communication of project goals during all phases of project management. In addition, poor quality training provided to personnel engaged in the project along with inadequate knowledge sharing amid the project team members, were also ascertained to have an adverse impact on the quality of effectiveness of new ERP system within Nike. Project managers involved in the project were not able to execute substantial control over the project management and to minimize the level of risks that arose during the course of ERP implementation. The insufficient financial resources provided by the top management within the organization also contributed towards the reduced quality of the ERP system. The project schedules were also extremely tight that forced to conduct the implementation activities in rush and eventually influencing the quality of the project outcome. The users within the organization also reveal certain degree of resistance and its impact was later visible in terms of poor quality of the ERP system

Comparison of Democratic and Republican Ideals Research Paper
Comparison of Democratic and Republican Ideals - Research Paper Example This essay outlines that in 1792, over 200 years ago, Thomas Jefferson founded the Democratic Party. According to the Democratic Party principles, the party is committed to helping the alienated, the disfranchised and the poor through provision of a government framework that provides them with the opportunity to earn a piece of the American Dream. In this regard, the Democrats pledge to provide a stable government that is relevant to all aspects of human need. The fort of Democratic Party, thus, rests on the strength and power of socially diverse citizens. This discussion stresses that the Republican Party was founded in the 1850s. Its first president was Abraham Lincoln. He advocated noninterference of the government in whatever people did. They held on to the White House for about 60 of the next 100 years and have since survived as one of todayââ¬â¢s two major parties. Modern day ideologies of the Republican can be demonstrated by the presidency of Ronald Reagan. When he assumed power in the early 1980s, Americans were in an economic recession with a series of policy failures in 1970s. He initiated large tax decreases and tightened the foreign policies in order to lead to a strong and consistent economic growth. This ultimately saw the fall of the Soviet Union.à The Democrats follow the liberal philosophy which enhances the governmentââ¬â¢s role in regulation of the economy. Its another principle is the redistribution of income and wealth to the benefit of the needy.

Everything you Need to Know About Human papillomavirus Essay Example for Free
Everything you Need to Know About Human papillomavirus Essay Chances are you have at least came into contact with the human papilliomavirus and had no clue you did. Most adults have whom are sexually active have been exposed to HPV, with as many as 20 million estimated Americans to be infected with the strains that cause genital warts. The good news, most cases have no symptoms of health problems. Now for the bad news, it causes nearly all cases of cervical cancer . In many ways, you can compare HPV to genital herpes. Both are incurable and rarely have symptoms. However, both are capable of causing medical problems and are both widespread in this country. Luckily, HPV only causes cancer in a small percentage of those infected. Besides cervical cancer, which is usually all that ever gets mentioned when discussing this infection, HPV can also cause cancer of the vulva, penis, head, neck, and anus, but these are extremely rare. These viruses are called papillomavirus because they tend to cause warts, or papillomas. Which are benign tumors. Warts caused from HPV can appear in the hands, feet or on/around the genital area. The strains of HPV that cause warts on the hands and feet are rarely the same as the ones that cause genital warts. There are about two hundred different types of HPV. Only about forty strains are caused from some form of sexual contact and only a handful are associated with cervical cancer. More than ninety-five percent of HPV viruses cause no symptoms and problems. The Gardasil vaccine, a serious of three shots over a period of six months, was approved for women between the ages of thirteen and twenty-six. This vaccine was shown to prevent HPV strains sixteen and eighteen, strains causing seventy percent of cervical cancer. Gardisil does not cure or prevent all strains of HPV. Researchers dont know if patients who show no symptoms are as contagious as the ones who are.

International business Essay -- essays research papers fc
Protectionism in the global economy The global economy has seen a dramatic increase in services trade between countries. The regulation and monitoring of service trade between countries has become much harder. As highlighted by Johnson, trading in services was the fastest growing constituent of global trade during the 80ââ¬â¢s and 90ââ¬â¢s. Cross border transactions include anything from banking to software. When services are offered to another country, the provider has to interact with the customer through either, cross border communications, movement of the provider or the consumer moving to the supplierââ¬â¢s state of residence. Technology has made international trade much easier and more feasible; this has lead countries to boost services being exported to other countries. IT has decreased the cost of communication between countries. As a result it has made it more feasible for businesses to introduce new products and modify services abroad. This spark in global trade of services has its downfalls. The lib eralization of services goes against certain countriesââ¬â¢ development strategies. Areas like health and education needs the provisional planning of governments. The interference from abroad has hindered the governmentsââ¬â¢ strategic planning with respect to these services. This takes us to the importance of regulating services coming in from abroad through protectionism. Regulations on services can be a burden on service providers which can consequently weaken the liberalization of tr...

Give Me Liberty Maps
Trips were made to North America, South America and even around Cape Horn. 4. Before the English or French settlers even got to the Americas, Spain had stretched their empire across most of North and South America. Big name explorers like Cortes and Pizzeria pitched in for Spain. 5. In search of better and more land, settlers in Jamestown moved expanded north and a little bit south. In the midst of their expansion, they moved into Indian land. 6. Expansion occurred In other early colonies, too. Settlers In Plymouth expanded Into loonies of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Haven. . England wasn't the only country that constructed colonies In North America In the eighteenth century. The Dutch, French, and Spanish accompanied them. 8. Trying to find solace in numbers, the colonies experienced a lot of racial and ethnic diversity within. The main groups escaping prosecution were Jews, Swedes, Welsh and French Hugeness. 9. The ââ¬Å"triangle tradeâ⬠is used to descr ibe the many ââ¬Å"triangularâ⬠trading routes that crossed the Atlantic. The commerce would supply colonies and Africa with manufactured goods, the New World with slaves, and Europe with colonial items. 0. For most of the eighteenth century, North America was dominated by the British, Spanish, and French. Britain had influence on the East Coast, France the Mid-east, and Spain the Southwest. 11. The Seven Years' War ended with French defeat and a treaty giving all land east of the Mississippi to Britain. The British territory now stretched from the tip of Florida to the northernmost point In Canada. 12. The Revolutionary War was kicked off by major battles In the North, like Lexington and Concord. Most of the important fighting took place in New Jersey and New York. 13.After fighting a lot in the North, the Revolutionary War shifted to the South in 1777. The shift was of no avail as the British finally were defeated in Yorktown in 1781. 14. Though they won they're territory, t he US only owned a small part of North America. The continent was shared by a bunch of European countries as well. 15. Just because they won the war, doesn't mean the US had total support from within. There were a lot of Loyalists throughout the colonies, most abundant in New York and the Carolinas. 16. Though it was very ineffective, one thing the Articles of Confederation did do Is ceding western land out to Spanish Louisiana. The United States now stretched from the Atlantic to the Mississippi. 17. In 1780, ordinances were set out resulting In both surveying and sale of public domain land. Eventually this land resulted In new states carved out of It and made equal members In the US. 18. The area of influence for Federalists and Anti-Federalists was separated: those who were Federalists, though they did not cover as much land mass had more people than the Anti-Federalists. 19. After being enslaved, massacred, and driven from their home, the Indian population was incredibly low comp ared to that of the early colonial era. However, they moved to the west where, past the Appalachians, was considered Indian country. 20. After the Presidential Election of 1800, Jefferson was elected president. Though he won a big majority of the states, he only won with 53% of the population. 21 . The United States kept growing, including the 200% growth in the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Being largely uncharted, Louis and Clark explored this landmass in the years following the purchase. 22. For America, the War of 1812 was a war on two fronts: with Britain and with the Native Americans. However, they fought hard and won most of the battles. 23. By 1840, America had put in a lot of work towards the transportation system, which proved very beneficial for the economy. The roads, usable rivers, and canals spread all throughout the eastern part of the country. 24. In the early asses, the population began to move west and across the Mississippi River. Much of the territory owned by the Un ited State, however, still remained unsettled. 25. Between 1820 and 1840, the cotton industry exploded in the rear from South Carolina to Louisiana. The Mississippi River became discovered as a good area to grow an abundance of cotton. 26. Due to arguments of slavery, the Missouri Compromise was formed to settle that. The Missouri Compromise separated the United States into territories open to slavery and those closed to slavery. 27. The 1828 election is a good representation of lifestyles varying due to location. Jackson won every state in the South and Adams was only popular in the far North East. 28. Americans finally completed their Indian exclusion in 1835 when Indian presence seized to exist east of the Mississippi River. They removed the Five Civilized Tribes, Chickasaws, Choctaw, Cherokee, Creek, and Seminole, to do so. 29. Though usually the South is characterized to be cotton plantations, the slaves also worked to grow rice, sugarcane, tobacco, and hemp. While hemp and tobac co were mostly grown more north, cotton, rice, and sugarcane were exclusively grown in the southern US. 30. The better the lands, the more slaves were in the area, resulting in a concentration of the slave population in areas with fertile soil or good access to big markets. Many big cities were in areas of high slave population due to this way of thinking.

Black Betty by William Huddie Essay
In 1939 the Musicraft Recording Label released a record which included the track, ââ¬Å"Black Bettyâ⬠by William Huddie Leadbetter better known as ââ¬Å"Lead Belly. â⬠ââ¬Å"Black Bettyâ⬠had been said to be originated as far back as the 18th century or the early 1930ââ¬â¢s. Lead Belly was the first one to ever commercially record it however, giving him most of the credit for the song. Lead Belly was an iconic American folk and blues musician, notable for his strong vocals, twelve-string guitar, and the songbook of folk standards he introduced. It was recorded acapella with just Lead Belly singing and clapping on the 4th beat in the 12 bar blues style song. The form is kind of AABCDEAA, where each verse begins and ends with ââ¬Å"Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-Ba-Lam). â⬠At the end of each line Lead Belly also repeats the phrase ââ¬Å"Bam-Ba-Lam. â⬠Although this song did gain some popularity in the early 1940ââ¬â¢s because of Lead Belly, it really gained the worldââ¬â¢s attention in 1977 when a band by the name of Ram Jam recorded it. Ram Jam was an east coast band formed in the mid 70ââ¬â¢s. Its members consisted of Bill Bartlett (guitar), Howie Blauvelt (bass), Peter Charles (drums), Myke Scavone (lead vocals, guitar), and Jimmy Santoro (guitar). The song was released on their self-titled debut album Ram Jam in 1977. It reached the #7 position in the UK singles chart in September 1977. The single also reached #18 on the singles chart in the US. The album reached #34 in the Billboard Pop Albums chart in the US. Even though ââ¬Å"Black Bettyâ⬠shot Ram Jam to stardom overnight, it also brought along much controversy because of its lyrical meanings. Since this song has been said to have been originated back in the 18th century, the lyricsââ¬â¢ meaning has changed numerous amount of times. The origin and meaning of the lyrics are subject to debate. Some sources claim the song is derived from an 18th century marching cadence about a flint-lock rifle with a black head-stock; the ââ¬Å"bam-ba-lamâ⬠lyric referring to the sound of the gunfire. Soldiers in the field were said to be ââ¬Å"hugging Black Bettyâ⬠. In this interpretation, the rifle was superseded by its ââ¬Å"childâ⬠, a rifle known as a ââ¬Å"Brown Bessâ⬠. Other sources claim the term was a contemporary reference for a prostitute, a prison bullwhip, heroin or the ââ¬Å"paddywagonâ⬠. Lead Belly was said to have been incarcerated a number of times so the second meaning rather than the interpretation about the flint lock rifle seems more accurate in his case. A more in depth look at the lyrics could possibly say that the song is about a black woman who lives in Alabama by herself. She was young and made a couple wrong decisions like drinking, drugs, and having a one-night stand with somebody. This caused her to conceive a child that she wasnââ¬â¢t ready for. She wasnââ¬â¢t ready for the responsibilities of being a mother. Her child was out of control because of all the drinking and drugs she had done prior to having it. It was hard to be a single black woman and a mother in the south so the easiest thing she could do was to sell her body as a prostitute. The man in the song talks about how whenever he needs her she will be ready waiting for him. This is the kind of interpretation that gave Ram Jam much criticism and controversy. Members of the NAACP and other groups such as them were very angry saying the song degrades black women. Ram Jam just always said itââ¬â¢s not leaning towards race, itââ¬â¢s basically just having a good time with girl, whether a prostitute or not, and taking drugs such as speed which would go along with the line ââ¬Å"She really gets me high. â⬠Analyzing the musical aspect of the song is much easier than the lyrical because I is pretty straight forward. The poetic devices in this song are kind of repeating because the song isnââ¬â¢t that long. ââ¬Å"Black Bettyâ⬠has an AA, BB, CC rhyme scheme. The stanza is ââ¬Å"whoa Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)â⬠which is repeated 10xââ¬â¢s throughout the song (lines 1, 2, 8, 10, 15, 16, 17, 18, 23, & 24). The song is really just three verses so there is a lot of pure instrumental with miniature solos by all the instruments. The instruments used were, 3 guitars, a bass, and drums. The drummer keeps the beat throughout the first 35 seconds of the song with the hi-hat cymbal by hitting on all four beats by itself for the first 10 seconds but for the rest of the 35 seconds the guitars and bass come in to play the bridge. The crash cymbal then comes in with guitars and bass stopping and lyrics are sung and the crash cymbal is hit on beats 2 and 4, the back beat, and the hi-hat now hits on beats 1 and 3. This back beat is used widely through rock, hard rock, and especially by all forms of metal. Although it was used efore this song came out, ââ¬Å"Black Bettyâ⬠definitely highlighted the use of the backbeat. During this first verse, and the other 2 verses also, it is just the drummer and the singer with the guitars and bass coming in and just playing between every 2nd and 3rd beat. Once the verse is over however the tempo speeds up and the showcase of guitars begins. Once the second verse begins, it goes back to the drums and singer but once this second verse ends, the tempo speeds to double time beginning with a drum solo into guitar solos for a solid 1:35. Once that 2:50 part hits the song takes a turn towards an easy groove feel with the tempo going back to the way it was in the beginning. At 3:05 however the tempos speeds up a little bit and plays the bridge that it had played before the first verse was sung. At 3:30, the third and final verse is sung just like the other two with the drummer playing that same crash cymbal on beats 2 and 4 and the hi-hat on 1 and 3. Once the third verse is done, they play about 10 seconds of an outro and the song is over. Although lyrically the song is pretty simple, I believe if you can perfect a simple song, it will make it great and with the guitar, bass, and drums that Ram Jam had put into this song to accompany the lyrics, it is a great song. You can obviously see that they were influenced by Lead Belly, but also by early rock bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eagles, Kansas, and ZZ Top because itââ¬â¢s that southern rock sound and feel that those bands made famous. Since Ram Jam released ââ¬Å"Black Bettyâ⬠it not only put their name on the map but also rocketed that song to tons of movies and TV shows. It will go down as one of the best rock songs of all time.

Tobacco Ads Target Youth Everyday 3,000 children start smoking, most them between the ages of 10 and 18. These kids account for 90 percent of all new smokers. In fact, 90 percent of all adult smokers said that they first lit up as teenagers (Roberts). These statistics clearly show that young people are the prime target in the tobacco wars. The cigarette manufacturers may deny it, but advertising and promotion play a vital part in making these facts a reality (Roberts). The kings of these media ploys are Marlboro and Camel. Marlboro uses a fictional western character called The Marlboro Man, while Camel uses Joe Camel, a high-rolling, swinging cartoon character. Joe Camel, the "smooth character" from R.J. Reynolds, who is shown as a dromedary with complete style has been attacked by many Tobacco-Free Kids organizations as a major influence on the children of America. Dr. Lonnie Bristow, AMA (American Medical Association) spokesman, remarks that "to kids, cute cartoon characters mean that the product is harmless, but cigarettes are not harmless. They have to know that their ads are influencing the youth under 18 to begin smoking"(Breo). Researchers at the Medical College of Georgia report that almost as many 6-year olds recognize Joe Camel as know Mickey Mouse (Breo). That is very shocking information for any parent to hear. The industry denies that these symbols target people under 21 and claim that their advertising goal is simply to promote brand switching and loyalty. Many people disagree with this statement such as Illinois Rep. Richard Durbin who states " If we can reduce the number of young smokers, the tobacco companies will be in trouble and they know it "(Roberts). So what do the tobacco companies do to keep their industry alive and well? Seemingly, they go toward a market that is not fully aware of the harm that cigarettes are capable of. Blog Spot Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Blog Spot - Essay Example Iraq was then supposedly occupied by the Americans with the initial purpose of ensuring peace, progress, and modernity there and rescuing the public of Iraq from heavy influence exercised by the rigid and exacting government. It is my argument that though America presented many justifiable reasons for invading Iraq, the deteriorating condition of Iraq and the helpless condition of the American troops patrolling there have collectively imposed such a heavy burden on the economy of America that millions of families are getting badly affected owing to this purposeless war while not meeting the criteria given by the hawks. Proponents of the invasion of Iraq had a few primary justifications. There were fears that Saddam Hussein was developing WMDs. There was concern that he had been connected to al Qaeda cells (Rumsfeld, 2009). And, of course, he was a brutal dictator. One problem was that they kept offering different justifications, saying that one was central one day and the other the next, but the case did look compelling initially. They also claimed UN Security Council support. Some had messianic justifications: Falwell also argues that the Iraq war is justifiable and was indeed initiated by Godââ¬â¢s will and authority (2004). Meanwhile, opponents said that the war was illegal. The UN Charter makes it illegal for countries to unilaterally invade other countries, no matter what other Resolutions are on the table. The Security Council had not acted, so it was illegal. They argued that the war would lead to more terrorism, a claim that seemed to become compelling in the aftermath of the invasion as suicide bombings began in a country that did not have them prior. They also argued that Saddam Hussein had no WMDs, which was hard to tell at the time but became prescient when it was discovered that he didnt. They argued that the invasion could lead to looting of WMDs, and that the invasion was mostly about securing oil and resources for

What is The Cash Flows Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3750 words
What is The Cash Flows - Essay Example The investment must be done in those opportunities where the NPV value is highest and in this situation spending money on project Alpha will result in highest NPV. The four main investment appraisal technique methods are Payback Period (PP), Accounting Rate of Return (ARR), Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR). The four main investment appraisal methods used are segmented into two techniques. Non-discounted cash flow technique includes PP and ARR and discounted cash flow technique includes NPV and IRR. Payback Period (PP) is the time acquired to equal the cash inflows and outflows. In the book ââ¬ËFinancial Accounting for Decision Makersââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËAccounting: An Introductionââ¬â¢ it is discussed that PBP method is important for future context and it is totally cash based. It is also mentioned that it ignores sunk cost and committed cost when applied (Atrill & McLaney, 2013). Payback period is simple to calculate and useful in the short-term and consider the cash flows of the projects which makes it easier to evaluate the liquidity position of the company and decisions about the investment proposals. It explains the management about the time during which investment will be recovered and how quick it could be utilized for another project. On the other hand, this method completely ignores the qualitative aspects of decision making. It is also not possible to analyze the useful life of the asset and does not consider how much cash flow will be generated after payback period is achieved. Payback period ignores the profitability of the company and decision taken on the basis of this method may cause the management to undertake a project which is not profitable. ARR is also known as return on investment and is used to make an analysis of a project, which may take at least a year long time.
